Sometimes sustainability means less

One under-recognised consequence of the digital era is the energy costs. Google, which has some advanced alternative energy projects underway, has recently been spotted jumping over backwards justifying the energy consumption of its core search technology.

Can we get by with less data? Just how much do we lose if we pedal backwards on technology. Here’s one, rather amusing, answer:
